Barbera Testa Vineyards
Barbera is the grape of the Italian Piedmont. The wine from these grapes tends to be very dark and acidic, earthy and very age worthy. The Barbera we source from Testa Vineyards has these attributes but isn’t as acidic as some. We let the fruit hang for complete ripening and that cuts back on some of the acidity. This wine has a clean, grapy nose, soft mid palate and a complex and gentle acidity. Matches well with all foods Italian. 50 cases produced.

2005
Cabernet Sauvignon Testa Vineyards Mendocino County
2007 was the Testa Family's 95th Harvest. The fourth generation is starting to care for the vines under Jim Testa's supervision. This is a great tribute to a family and a great honor for a winemaker to work with such grapes and a family with such lineage. Their Cabernet vineyard was 8 years old in 2005. The vineyard is 6 acres, 1700 feet in elevation, red soil and dry farmed.

The 2005 Testa Cab is made from very small berries and exhibits silky skin tannins that carry it's remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. A dense, dark wine that is both brooding and appealing. Tony feels this wine has excellent cellaring potential and can be consumed now through 2020.

This is a classic Cabernet of yesteryear, that wants to be paired with an aged steak, grilled eggplant brushed with olive oil, or a decadent chocolate dessert.

Certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers since 2005.

2002
Cabernet Sauvignon Rustling Ridge Vineyards
We produce very small amounts of Cab, in this instance only 168 cases. Cabernet Sauvignon is a very expensive wine to make, the grapes are the highest price, it needs new French Oak barrels (we used 20% on this one) and has to be aged the longest. 2002 is a very good year for Napa Cab but that doesn’t mean this wine is ready to drink. This Cab is very tight and has strong acidity. This wine needs to be set up right for at least 3 days before serving. It must be decanted to separate it from the sediment and allow to breath for at least 2 hours. I would recommend serving this wine with rich cream sauces and foods. Sweetbreads, beef Wellington, Pasta Alfredo, rich cheeses and believe it or not decadent chocolate desserts. After all this, don’t be afraid of this wine, I would recommend trying it and if you like it and sense the future that it has order more and put it in the deepest darkest part of your cellar.

Carignane Testa Vineyards Mendocino County
The Testa family has established and owned the Testa Vineyards for 3 generations. The grapes for this cuvee are among the oldest on the ranch. Carignane is an ancient varietal grown throughout the Mediterranean. This Carignane is a dry table wine with a structure similar to Syrah but without Syrah’s big fruitiness. This wine has the remarkable ability to pair with most foods, especially what is loosely called “California Cuisine” empathizing fresh ingredients grilled or braised without a lot of sauces. Enjoy with your favorite meats and vegetables.

Charbono Testa Vineyards
The Testa family has established and owned the Testa Vineyards for 3 generations. Charbono is an interesting hybrid of Nebbiolo and Grenache. A very deeply colored wine with bright acidity that is reminiscent of a white wine. This wine has been used for pairing with fish and shellfish courses at Coturri winemaker dinners. Charbono is more of a texture than a fruit forward wine. 60 cases produced.

Merlot Feingold Vineyards
This is not a subdued wine. It has the classic earmarkings of its French counterpart. Full in structure from start to finish with a dark cherry nose, slight hints of cedar and balanced tannins.

This is a classic representation of what merlot is should be. If Miles had tasted this merlot, he would have changed his statement in the movie "Sideways" to reflect the great character of this Bordeaux varietal.

Merlot Maclise Vineyards
The Maclise Vineyards have gone through many changes over the years. It was originally planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, but the area it’s in was too cool. Gewürztraminer was next. It grew very well there but the varietal was out of favor. Then in 1993 Merlot was planted and it has done very well. The vineyards are located in an area called Sobre Vista; a cool region perfect for Merlot.

2005 was a great vintage, slightly cooler than 2004. The Maclise Merlot from this vintage is very deeply colored, silky, streamlined and focused. A ripe dry cherry nose, finely textured mid palate and smooth acid finish characterize this wine.

This wine will match well with grilled foods, marinated and grilled lamb, smoked eggplant or simply enjoyed with a nice triple cream brie and crusty sourdough bread.

Pinot Noir Lost Creek
This wine comes from a new planting of Pinot that uses rootstocks and clones that represent the current Pinot style of California. This wine is light in color but very full bodied on the palate. It has the classic structure of Pinot, the proverbial "iron fist in the velvet glove." When this wine was young, it had an amazing amount of acidity and tannin. It took 4 years in the bottle to get a pinot that is accessible to drink. It has mushroom and barn aromas in the nose, a tight fruit flavor in the middle, and a long lingering finish of fruit and acidity. This wine will match well with rich foods and sauces. 511 cases produced.

2006
Pinot Noir Jewell Vineyards
Barry and Kate Roach's Jewell Vineyard is located on the upper part of Sonoma Mountain. The vines are 55 years old, planted on the classic St. George Root stock and grafted with an old clone, probably from an original Burgundian source.

The vines are dry farmed, meaning no irrigation. The clusters fit in the palm of your hand and the berries are the size of peas. The wine is a study of silky tannins because the ratio of juice to skin is heavy toward the skins- a primary source of tannins. This wine is very dark, very ripe and has a wonderful texture.

Aged in re-conditioned French oak barrels for 26 months. A very age worthy, sturdy and classic Pinot Noir.

This wine pairs well with many cuisines. It has the ability to balance a traditional French cream sauce or a simple grilled assemblage of fresh vegetables and meats of your choosing.

Only 150 cases produced.

Petite Sirah
Petite Sirah is destined to be the Cabernet Sauvignon of Mendocino especially the eastern portion. While Mendocino has and does grow Cabernet Sauvignon of the highest quality, Napa is such a powerhouse for the varietal that all the other viticulture don’t have a chance. But when it comes to Petite Sirah, there is no competition with what Mendocino can grow. This new release shows what the varietal can do. This wine has a deep color, a fruity nose with hints of flowers and natural yeasts, and a mid-palate that has texture and viscosity that blends right into the marvelous acidity of Petite Sirah to finish the experience. This petite Sirah can be drunk now when it’s fresh and lively or it can be cellared for 10 years become a very substantial wine. This young Petite would pair well with grilled foods, light on the sauces and marinates. As it ages, it will work with creamy sauces and richer foods. 125 cases produced

2007
Primativo Testa
Primitivo is, according to DNA testing, the same as Zinfandel. This wine, while having similar aromas and body of Zinfandel, seems to have a completely different acid balance. 2007 was a good year in general but Primitivo, as well as Zinfandel, had problems during bloom. Instead of having the typical 3 or 4 seeds in the berries, this Primitivo had 1 or, in some cases, no seeds. The grape ripens from the inside out. The seeds are, in a sense, the regulators of ripening. The berries without seeds ripen to full sugar very much ahead of the seeded berries. We had to average the sugars of the two and let the seeded berries hang longer, which resulted in a very sweet must and eventually wine. This Primitivo has a good amount of sweetness but a great acidity to balance it. Dark color, fruity sweet nose and balancing acidity are what this wine is all about. This Primitivo will match well with winter grade stews, spicy foods and strong aged cheeses, blue especially. 300 cases produced.

Sangiovese Freiberg Vineyards
We have been leasing the vineyard from the Freiberg family since 1978. Myron Freiberg, the original owner, was firmly committed to organic growing practices. In many ways he was a mentor. Freiberg Vineyards will be among the first Coturri vineyards to be certified 'biodynamic'.

Sangiovese is the grape of Tuscany, the ancestral birthplace of the Coturri Family.

Sangiovese is a dark, very complex, earthy wine with overtones of ripe strawberries and new leather in the aroma, an almost sweet mid-palate and fine textured tannins in the finish.

A good match with all Italian dishes from steak Florentine to Eggplant parmesan.

Syrah Crane Vineyards
Crane Vineyards is on the northern border of the Carneros Appellation. Hot days, cool nights and long hang time define this district.

Crane Syrah from the first vintage in 1999 was a winner. Since then, the quality of the wines produced from this vineyard have only gotten better. The 2005 is no exception.

Dark color, full and ripe fruit and an acidity that is almost viscous in it texture are hallmarks of this great wine. Classic Sonoma Valley Syrah at its best.

Matches well with traditional fare: grilled or braised lamb, rare duck breast over an open fire, grilled eggplant or winter vegetables.

Syrah/Merlot Feingold Vineyards
What a tasty blend! The Syrah with its earthiness, firm, juicy structure gives such an excellent backbone to the cherry-nosed Merlot with its hints of cedar. This wine is a delight and will pair with foods that have some hardiness as well as some involved flavors.

Zinfandel Coturri Estate Vineyards
We planted our Estate Zinfandel in 1975. Our vineyard is 5 acres. It's dry farmed meaning there isn't any irrigation. The only water the vines receive is the winter and spring rains. The yield is quite small, usually around 3 tons. The concentration of flavors and taste is astounding. This wine has black fruit in the nose, a very sweet mid-palate and good balancing acidity in the finish.

A good wine to be served with blue and soft ripening cheeses, hardy stews and bittersweet desserts.

Certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers since 1993.

Zinfandel Freiberg Vineyards
This is one of the most unique zinfandels that you will ever have the opportunity to taste. The reason for this phenomenon is that the fruit in this particular vineyard is affected by boytritus, or the noble rot, that give the great Sauternes of France their character.

The resulting wine has an exquisite nose of honeyed melons and apricots followed by and explosion of ripe fruit on the palette and finished with a wonderful and concentrated acidity.

It is ultra rich and as such needs pairing with foods such as strong flavored cheeses, dry rubbed meats such as chicken or pork, and seasoned grilled vegetables.

It will also work well as a dessert wine paired with bittersweet chocolate recipes or simply poured over fresh fruit wedges and chilled.

Zinfandel P. Coturri Vineyards
My brother Phil Coturri, a partner and viticulturist for Coturri Winery, has a family estate in the Eastern Mayacamas Mountains in Sonoma Valley. East of the Sonoma Plaza, this vineyard is located about 1000 feet from the valley floor. It’s very rocky and hot; the perfect place for Zinfandel. The terraces are steep and harvesting is like skating on marbles. When one thinks of the classic hillside vineyard…..this is it.

For years, the Zinfandel from Phil’s vineyard has garnered out best reviews.

The wine is characterized with deep color, a sweet dry mid palate and a great acid finish. It streamlined on the tongue, yet the mouth is full of berries, brambles and jam. Not for those that like finesse or subtle wines, it’s flavor profile is "Full Speed ahead".

If cellared, this wine will gain a more relaxed structure and fruit will be fuller, purer and the bramble taste will take on more of a sweet earth quality.

This Zin will pair well with orange duck, wild mushroom, and truffle ravioli and blue cheeses.

Zinfandel Testa Vineyards
Old vine grapes and traditional old school wine. Ripe, chocolaty nose, deep color, sweet middle and a nice balancing acidity. The classic Coturri style. A little more complex and a little more style and restraint than early offerings, but very enjoyable. It will be a hit with those that love our Zins. Matches well with winter stews with lots of herbs and spices, Crab Cioppino, strong soft ripening cheese and blue chees, and bitter sweet chocolate desserts. To me the perfect match for this wine is to serve it late in the afternoon with an aged Gorgonzola and crusty French bread. 180 cases produced.
