Question: I need to find the brand name(s) of a red wine that does not have sulphur in it . . . by New Years. Someone told me that you can't make red wine without sulphur, that it's only the white wines that can be made without sulphur. Time is of the essence, as they say. Please help, thanks.

Answer: Coturri wines are unsulfured. Their merlot is delicious, and they offer other red wines: Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and other sulfiting agents are often added to wines. They function as preservatives. SO2 is categorized as an "unclassifiable carcinogen," and may cause respiratory distress and/or headaches in those who are sensitive to it.
