RED IS LIFE - by H. Buff Herr

Extraordinary - posted July 7, 2006

Have written many times about Coturri Wines - no matter how much I like them - I would be remiss by not admitting - that they're not for everyone -

Rich - syrupy - all natural - they are what I call real wines -

So I opened a bottle of Coturri - Zinfandel - 2002 - with a summer night steak BBQ - offering my wife a taste - expecting her to immediately switch to a cool white Sauvignon Blanc -

Extraordinary - the first word she spoke after the sip and subsequent appropriation of my glass -

Coturri At Clinton - posted October 5, 2004

"Coturri - Pinot Noir - Sessions Cuvee - 1997 - just flat out extraordinary !!!"

"The Pinot itself rang true - clean - defined - balanced - subtle fruit without the overwhelming power of a Pisoni - moderate color - perfect against the wide range of foods making their way to the table - The evening was a treat - the food is a foodie delight - as always - an adventure with rich rewards - the wine was why collectors think twice before "opening that one bottle".

One(s) of a Kind - posted November 14, 2004

"Years ago - I drank a Coturri Alicante Bouschet '93 - Thick as mud - the heaviest Zin created by man - drinks like Blood - but worth the experience -

Like a veteran with strips - retelling the story got me to the inner wine circle at 71 Clinton Fresh Food - and being proffered - Coturri - Pinot Noir - Sessions Cuvee - 1997 - an off the list special at my sister-in-law's birthday -

Thursday night Tony Coturri came to town -

Hot off the AVID/Final Cut Pro Hard Drive - Just Grapes -

Its a 30 minute documentary of Tony's efforts to place his wine with restaurants - dealers - and distributors - New York City - the video clip - is so to the point - and you thought that selling wine was somehow romantic ???

It lays out Tony's idea that if grapes are used to make wine - why add yeast and chemicals -

From my own experience - there are those of us that buy Apple - and the majority that buy Microsoft/Intel powered PCs - Saab or Volvo will never sell as many as Chevy - but those of us who do subscribe - love them -

I don't care if wine is organic - french - american - if it taste good - great - if it tastes better - wonderful - these wines are different - but do they ever taste great -

Don't think Just Grapes will make it to the Oscars - but if it shows up on TV or DVD - make a point to see it -

Meeting Tony was a hoot - he questioned if my Alicante experience was a '93 - checked the data base - yes it was - and I still have one bottle left - Alex at 71 Clinton had given them a heads up on my Black Hat - so they were prepped on who I was - its a small world -

Recommended -

Albarello '03 - a field blend of Zin and Petite Syrah - have to do a A/B tasting against The Prisoner -

Charbona Testa Vineyards '03 - no more Alicante Bouschet - but he swears this will serve as a replacement - have to give it a whirl -" Enjoy - HBH
