2003 Coturri "Maclise Vineyard" Merlot ($20, available nationally or directly from www.coturriwinery.com). Coturri is famous for natural grape growing techniques and for creating big-boned long-lived unfiltered red wines of incredible flavor density. The Maclise merlot comes from a certified organic vineyard, and the wine is left to ferment with only the natural yeast from the vineyard. The resulting wine is big, black, inky, high in alcohol and destined to live forever."
